Mysteria: Gregorian Chant (Label: Teldec)

Chanticleer (Artist)

Many of us do not have much experiences with Chant CD.

The listening experience could be quite unusual but at the same time refreshing, as compared to the classical music that we are often exposed to. Some even said it could transport one's mind to another world.

Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical music of hte Roman Catholic Church. It consists of a single, unaccompanied melodic line, often being employed in the celebration of the Mass and other ritual services.

Chanticleer, a blend of 12 males voices ranging from countertenor to bass, based in San Francisco, is also known around the world as “An Orchestra of Voices”.  Its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music had won them the 2008 Ensemble of the Year award. The New Yorker magazine even titled them as “The World’s Reigning Male Chorus”.

I was pleasantly amazed when I was first introduced to this blending of voices, which is reflective, meditative and beautiful; with the right balance of precision and utterly defined. Absolutely gorgeous!

To enhance your listening experience: Switch off the lights, light some candles, close your eyes, be alone, and finally, stir in some imaginations.

Happy Easter!!!
